WRONG PRONUNCIATION... FUNNY OR IRRITATING?

"I would like to have a hamburger.."

Wrong pronunciation made by a French guy who tries his best to speak English correctly. Do we think that it is funny or irritating? you make your own decision.

Many of us will think that the pronunciation is very funny. I also have the same thought. Even in class, sometimes I might burst into laughs when my students unintentionally pronounced the English words wrongly. What can I do?

Teaching the non-native English speakers are not as easy as it may seem. Even the English woman in this video is also facing the same difficulty in teaching the French guy how to pronounce "HAMBURGER". It is only ONE word....what if there are more than that...Can you imagine that?

As the spectators for this video, we may think that the wrong pronunciation is funny. But try to be one who teaches the guy....you might find that it is very irritating! Hamburger....one easy word, should be easy enough to pronounce..but then it turns out to be otherwise.

So, if we think that pronunciation is still not important for us, we may be wrong. We do not want people to laugh at us. We may not feel comfortable to be a joke among our friends or strangers.

Make your own decision ..... either .... TO BE LAUGHED AT or TO BE ADORED BY others?

proNUNciation or proNOUNciation?

Today, I've got a question, given by my beloved brother. Which one is the correct spelling? Pronunciation or Pronounciation. Well, we often get confused because of the spelling.

It is true that this word comes from the word PRONOUNCE, which is a verb. But, as a noun, it is spelled as PRONUNCIATION. Even the sounds are different between both of the word.

for Pronunciation, it sounds like this....prəˌnʌnt .siˈeɪ.ʃən
for Pronounce, it sounds like this.....prəˈnaʊnt s

WAIT A MINUTE!

What in the world do those weird symbols represent of? Well, in my previous post, I have pasted the table of the Phonetics Symbols. Those symbols that you see above, are sounds that form the word. InsyaAllah, in my other post, I will show you how those symbols are being pronounced.

Well everybody....isn't it interesting that all this long we are being mistaken by spelling the word as PRONOUNCIATION? It is alright to make mistake, at least we can learn form it. Hopefully next time, we can spell and use the word correctly.:)

How to improve our pronunciation skill?

Do you know what do these symbols mean? Well, to improve your pronunciation skill, we need to get to know these symbols first.

WHY?

It is because these are the symbols that represent the sounds in English words. They are called the PHONETICS SYMBOLS.
These symbols are not used in our writing but they can be found in any English dictionaries.

For example:

pronunciation /prəˌnʌnt .siˈeɪ.ʃən/

Join me and we can all learn together. We will learn about the functions of those symbols and how they play important roles in English pronunciation.

Remember.......... SPEAKING NEEDS SKILLS. ONE OF THEM IS THE PRONUNCIATION SKILL!

The Importance of Pronunciation

We might think that speaking is an easy thing to do. Open our mouths and words come out easily. But do we realize that speaking is all about skill. Skill in pronouncing the words correctly. All languages need its speaker to speak clearly and correctly. In English, the same rule is applied. Wrong pronunciation will give wrong interpretation to the listener. Therefore, it is very important for us to know the sound of the words before it is being pronounced by us, or not..... people might misinterpret what we are saying.
